STRENGTHENING SCHOOL THROUGH THEATER ARTS (SSTTA)

SSTTA is an in-school program that serves students and teachers in inner-city elementary and high schools through training in the theatre arts.

This program is designed to:

Enhance learning, cognitive and social skill development of students in the Chicago Public Schools.

Equip teachers with strategies to improve classroom management

Empower teachers to teach curriculum through theatre arts

The SSTTA program uses curriculum that incorporates acting exercises used by professional theatre arts performers.
Activities use elements of drama, dance, and music to enhance the learning environment.

These activities can be adapted based on:

The needs of our partner schools,

The classroom curriculum set forth by our partnering teachers,

And the prior performing arts experience of the students we serve.

Each Residency program is concluded with a culminating performance on the Black Ensemble Theater Stage! Click here for more information.
