BE is the only theater in the nation whose mission is to eradicate racism. We utilize theater and educational outreach programs to bring people together in a community that fosters dialogue, respects differences while ultimately embracing and honoring our sameness as human beings.

ABOUT THE BLACK ENSEMBLE THEATER
Black Ensemble Theater (BE), Founded in 1976 by actress, producer, and playwright Jackie Taylor, has grown from a small community arts organization to a vibrant nationally and internationally renowned arts institution. A leader and innovator in the African American and mainstream arts communities, Black Ensemble Theater is recognized as one of the most diverse theaters in the country, producing excellent musical theater. In addition to its renowned live productions, Black Ensemble Theater provides educational outreach, black playwright development and community access programs all of which are crucial to its mission.

POSITION SUMMARY
The Senior Marketing Manager works with the Chief Operating Officer and staff to implement an overall marketing plan for the BE Theater. The position requires the ideal candidate to develop, manage, execute and analyze marketing plans for the Theater season, outreach programs and events, increasing awareness, attendance and revenue while deepening the BE Theater brand.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • General
      • Work with the Marketing team to plan and implement innovative, creative and effective marketing campaigns for the Theater seasons
      • Plan and implement strategic marketing campaigns and manage the budget for specific production/event campaigns as assigned
      • Evaluate the effectiveness of marketing campaigns and promotions through the analysis of audience/sales data, survey results and other analytics
      • Assist in protecting the integrity of Black Ensemble Theater’s brand
      • Establish and maintain of company branding and marketing initiative
      • Work with external partners such as photographers, printers and agencies to fulfill marketing campaigns
      • Partner with the COO to create effective ad plans and media mix purchases
      • Participate to insure institutional and non-profit mission marketing objectives are met and integrated via shows, partners, and activities
      • Provide support for show, theater services, sales, development, educational, and/or institutional activities and projects
      • Manage on special projects, initiatives, promotions and other programs as needed
    • Digital and Social
      • Works directly with COO and Marketing team to help implement a social media plan, timelines and priorities for shows and events
      • Maximize events, promotions and outreach in the social media platforms
      • Help to cross-pollinate platforms with the artists, shows, and other groups, through theater brand messaging
      • Coordinate and update the theater website activities as appropriate
      • Coordinate email newsletter/announcements in line with individual event and institutional goal

Qualifications

    • Essential
      • Experience working in a marketing environment, preferably in the arts, culture, heritage or not-for-profit sector, and an awareness of current and ongoing marketing trends
      • Demonstrated success in community and audience development
      • Demonstrated success in utilizing data to inform decisions and planning
      • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
      • Ability to work under pressure and deliver to tight deadlines, reporting to multiple stakeholders
    • Desirable
      • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from four-year College or university
      • A strong interest in the Theater industry and community
      • Experience of basic photo editing software (such as Photoshop), video editing software and/or basic HTML design
      • Experience of working with a ticketing or box office system
    • Personal Qualities
      • Self-motivated, yet a good team player with the ability to plan ahead
      • Requires putting yourself in the customer’s place, anticipating and meeting needs quickly and accurately
      • Ability to interact and develop relationships with co-workers, give and receive constructive input, contribute ideas and viewpoints
      • Ability to manage shifting and competing priorities
      • Self-starter
      • Strong organizational skills
      • Ability to work independently and to maintain a positive work atmosphere

 

    • Work Conditions
        • Performs a majority of duties in a standard office environment
        • May work extended and/or evening hours, on occasion works weekend hours, and occasionally travels for meetings/seminars
